Interstitial Implant Set:
The design of this implant set was motivated by the need of
a system that - in addition to standard features (can be implemented
in various anatomical sites, may be used for out-patient treatment)
- makes use of fixed (after-loader specific) channel length,
and is compatible with any standard imaging modality (X-ray,
CT, and MRI).
The system consists of trocars (needles), catheter-sleeves
that are inserted into the treatment site surgically, and
trimmed to conform to the size of the treated area. Collet
type semi-spherical buttons fix the catheters to the patient
and filaments are used to keep the catheters from collapsing
or kinking, while at the same time providing enhanced visu-
alization of the catheters in CT images. Standard length source
guides (130 cm) are used to transport the source through the
sleeves. Double collet buttons fix the source guides to the
sleeves, while maintaining channel integrity for safe treatment
delivery. |
